Q:What's your opinion on modern and standard? Do you prefer one over the other?
Love standard just because its so much more basic and as far as being competitive in my local area there are more standard tournaments so I have embraced it!
Taking a few more questions tonight!
Feel free to leave them in the Inbox! Comments, suggestions or anything else you want to hear!
Hi, I’m a student journalist writing an article for a class about magic, it’s anniversary and the players for class and hopeful publication
Willing to answer some questions?
How long have you played Magic?
Just over a year and I have been playing competitively for less than half of that.
Do you follow the story/novels?
Between two jobs, my horses, my dogs and my final year in University I have no time to follow the story unfortunately! I need to find time to play magic!
What’s your favourite aspect of the game?
I love playing competitively. I love most of the people and I love the strategy involved in the game plus all the synergy and nonsense that comes with playing.
What do you think of planeswalker cards?
I despised them when I started playing. It took me a few minutes to understand the nonsense of essentially having another player on the board that was so powerful. Now I’m all for Garruk and Elspeth!
Do you know a lot of other female players?
Our last FNM had 8 ladies! Isn’t that awesome? I like to think of myself as an advocate for the game for us women and have come to know quite a few players, both at tournaments locally as well as out of town and online.
How do you feel Wizards markets the game, more to males or females?
As a feminist I have always kind of thought Wizards was very respectable as far as marketing towards different genders goes. Clearly the game is undeniably dominated by men but I think with the influence of more female players they might see that as inspiration for some more fun rewards for women who play.
What’s your favourite deck? Do you have a specific game moment you’ll always remember?
I miss my Golgari deck with Disciple and my Tusk man but Mono black has me hopelessly devoted but I could be convinced to try others.
Q:hey! awesome blog, I have just returned to MTG aswell, getting a hard time adjusting more so because none of my friends play anymore so until I meet someone im well alone in the magic world, wish I had friends so I could meet and do sealed tourneys and things like that! any advice on a returning player? Im building now a mono blue devo deck, still lack alot of play testing cause I keep getting beat up. Bummed sometimes. Well kudos on the blog and will keep coming back!
Advice for a returning player?
Don’t do it, its a trap!
Kidding. Kind of.
Make friends with your local gamestore owners, they are awesome. If you’re going to spend money and don’t have a tonne to throw at the game talk to them and people in the community. Get advice, make friends and people are usually super willing to help. I found that out the easy way. Most magic players are awesome, there are some complete arseholes, but that comes with any hobby. Enjoy!
For the Blue Mages.
This has been the question that continues to plague before each weekly FNM. Why? Because before this weekend I honestly had no idea. In order to build a deck that is likely to do well regardless of the format, knowing your local meta is key. I hadn’t played any standard since pre-Theros so I knew [&hellip
Mono black and mono blue devotion decks are sweepers in the format right now.
What are you playing?
